Environment and Energy

Equilibrium has been involved in a number of areas of Alternative Energy development projects (amongst many other things) over the last quarter century. We have watched and assisted with the rise of many technologies, from wind and wave technologies, through biomass and coal/fossil fuel alternatives. We have invested in areas of research that have been successful (and some that have not). Our commitment is to continue to work within this environment and energy sector as we see it as the most likely endeavour in which to involved to ever leave the world a better place for our children and grandchildren. This is Equilibrium's social compact.

Biomass to Electricity

Equilibrium has been involved in biomass energies for more than the past two decades. We have developed and delivered strategic plans, project masterplans, delivered on presentations to Governments and Associations as well as promoted the use of biomass around the world (see CNIM).

The world today must move away from fossil fuels. Granted there are minimal ways in which climate change and greenhouse gas abatement that do not somehow affect/effect another market. Coal and its derivatives are all here for the "long term" politically, as they employ millions of people around the world. Finding an attractive and as employment-friendly alternate is our aim. Please see our associated company's website (www.antaeusinternational.com) for more information.

Biomass to Renewable Fuels

As we've said the world today must move away from fossil fuels. Granted there are minimal ways in which climate change and greenhouse gas abatement that do not somehow affect/effect another market. The most appropriate way that we can ever get to move to a carbon negative renewable fuels environment is to seek to use biomass as a renewable fuel platform.

However we are not talking about a human consumable food stock as a core feedstock (like corn or sugar), but a solid monoculture specific broadacre agricultural feedstock that is purpose grown, self sustaining, long term and carbon negative.

Such a feedstock is Miscanthus x Giganteus, a C4 sterile long term grass that is the core of Antaeus's work.

Other Alternative Energies

Equilibrium has worked with companies around the world to develop such things as wind and wave technologies...from intriguing technologies like Sway turbine to the fantastic Tidal Delay work of Woodshed Technologies Limited (which has changed its name and part of its focus as part of a merger), but which technologies still are current and practical.

We do not discount wind and solar energies as far as they go, but unfortunately, the hype surrounding them will not (in our opinion) prove to provide an adequate supply of baseload power. Only biomass and its high calorific value compared to coal, is likely to prove effective.

We also support the development and delivery of safe nuclear energy.
